we interrupt this 50 mania...

To direct your attention to one of the most culturally important rap records hitting air waves and video channels right now...

Common's "The Corner" featuring The Last Poets and Produced by Kanye West - West directed the video too

This is hip-hop

If nothing else, perhaps those on the fringes can now better understand why heads got a love for the corner - and it's not just about selling drugs - it's the meeting place - where cats spit fire - where church services are held - where communities take action - the corner has deep history - and perhaps now it won't be misunderstood

At least we've got a glimpse at Rasheed's Lynn's next classic to be overlooked by the system. Geffen got the creative hip-hop on lock, from Common, to The Roots, to Talib Kweli, to Mos Def

go see what funkdigi has to say about and cop that link to the video

Two weeks as the number one joint on my audioscrobbler.

Jam of the year right now for real.

I'm seriously downloading this cut. Man!

This joint is etched in my mind right now. Mixes well with Anthony Hamilton's vocals for "Where I'm From". I'm spinning at the Dork Magazine party tomorrow and Common's Corners be the theme for me that night (for me, atleast).

Right on Lynne! And peep Common's video for "The Corner," which was directed by Kanye West. You doubted me before on this -- but I'm going to say it again -- Kanye is a hip-hop genius.

Also, add Styles P "I'm Black" to the list as well.

Let's keep it real, in the last few months -- maybe even years! -- we, as African Americans, forgot what it is to be black and to be proud of our heritage and culture.

"I'm Black" is in constant rotation in my iPod. I play it every morning before I go to work.
And then I play 50 Cent's "Ski Mask Way" so I can get into my gully mode. Grrrrrrr.

Common's "The Corner" and Styles P's "I'm Black" -- pure hip-hop dopeness.

And those of you looking for pure hip-hop albums -- other than 50 Cent and the Game.

Booo-ya!

One.Be.Lo -- S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.
-AND-
Rapper Big Pooh -- Sleepers

Two of the best rap albums in 2005, so far, that are not by 50 Cent and the Game.

And guess what? They are not beefing with each other!

Thank you Lynne for this.

Hey, hip-hop is not dead! It on "The Corner."

Holla at cha boy!

The Corner is hot. I had the track for a minute. It was sent to me by one of friends. I uploaded to my iPod, and I've been rockin it since. This is true hip hop. I'm anxious for the whole album to drop.

I'm feelin' "The Corner," although "Food" is still my prefered reborn (read: working with Kanye) Common joint. "Be" is probably one of the five most important albums for me this year, along with the new Little Brother, "Late Registration," the new Roots, and that "Detox" joint (if it ever actually drops). I just think that Common is so gifted and perceptive--he is one of my favorite MCs and always has been.

ummm.....as far as culturally relevant, don't sleep, styles p. "i'm black", just might trump "the corner"

I wanna say that Common's latest single, "The Corner" is off the d*mn chain!! It stuck in my head. This one should help him get back the status off "Like Water For Chocolate". Oh, somebody mentioned that they have "The Corner" as their ringtone for their cell, I want it too. Can you tell me where you got it from? Thanks.
