that's all i could keep thinking while watching ciara's video for "promise." you'll get what i mean once you watch the video yourself, as if you haven't already.

btw, i wonder how long it'll be before bet shuts this video down at youtube. everyone who's uploaded it there, recorded it from bet.

After watching that video, that is all I could think about, "are they trying to market her as the new aaliyah?".

How disrespectful.

I was thinking more like this was a Prince-written jam for Ciara than her biting Aaliyah. I do admit that after you pointed it out, it does ring true. But I really like how Ciara - like Aaliyah used to, uses interesting and complex music that changes tempo mid-song - it feels like she is a young singer who is trying new things. I also loved me some Aaliyah, but I admit I do love Ciara.

dolores

please watch the video and look at all of the new photos of ciara. this comment about aaliyah references her overall style more than simply how this song sounds musically or how it's sung.

thanks

I do think it's possible to copy someone to a "t" . like Ana nicole modeling herself and life after marilyn monroe. But there can only be 1 original. I do agree that the beat of that song and the way she dresses does resemble aaliyah's style. I think new artists need to be careful not to copy another "legends" style in any way shape or form. Ask missy eliot if she's affended! She's worked with the girl..

While Ciara's style is somewhat reflective of that of Aaliya I feel that she is only being herself. I am from GA and the way Ciara dresses and dances is how a lot of us do it in the south. If she got any of her moves and style from Aaliyah it should be seen as a compliment and not her trying to be be her. No one harped on Neo for getting most of his moves from Michael Jackson vidd now did they?

Nobody compares to aaliyah. Not Beyonce, ciara, not anyone. Aaliyah was and still is the best. Ciara's sttle is so much different than Aaliyah's. Aaliyah is way better than all the rest
