10 for the count...
I probably should have spent more time whittling this down, but in saving face --- since the folks at the Village Voice had to send me an email to remind me that I was late with my list --- I decided to make the best of it. Let me again reflect on the year in music --- bah, it was wack! Nothing really had me in awe or held my attention long enough. So this list was really hard, and probably not as well thought out as it should be. Perhaps I should have opted for just doing a singles countdown, or went with my heart like my boy Jeff. But anyway, here it is - without descriptions. But I will say that TV On The Radio is got damned excellent and Gwen Stefani is so hip-hop.
10 Amp Fiddler - Waltz of A Ghetto Fly (Pias America)
10 John Legend - Get Lifted (Sony)
10 Kanye West - The College Dropout (Roc-A-Fella)
10 Usher - Confessions (La Face)
10 Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand (Domino)
10 Prince - Musicology (Sony)
10 TV On The Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (Touch And Go Records)
10 Ghostface - The Pretty Toney Album (Def Jam)
10 Gwen Stefani - Love, Angel, Music, Baby (Interscope)
10 Vybz Kartel - Up 2 Di Time (Greensleeves)

I like your "wrap-up" list. I just finished my list for the Village Voice. I will shortly post my year-end list on my blog.
But what I also find amazing is that this is the first time I saw your list -- like, right now -- and it's almost identical to my list.
Happy New Year!
P.S.:
Time magazine has reached an agreement to acquire the complete ownership of the parent company of Essence magazine.

-AND-
Essence magazine has launched a campaign to denounce the degrading images and verbal abuse directed towards Black women in rap lyrics and videos.
Now I know you are going to disagree with me on this, but I'm quite sure the editors of Essence magazine saw your post about the "Misogyny in Hip-Hop" and got this idea to launch a campaign.
I saw your post on every hip-hop messageboard on the 'Net. I think I saw it on a Snoop Dogg fan site messageboard, as well.
I just hope the editors will approach (and/or hire) you to help them tackle this issue in an efficient manner. You seem to have a better grasp on this issue than most journalists. You know how to break this ish down and get people aware of what's really going on.
But I'll wait and see what Essence is going to do.
My thing is this -- if there's misogyny in the culture, then there will be misogyny in the music. Therefore, attacking Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent is not going to address the issue. Attacking BET is not going to solve or bring awareness to the issue.
Anyway, let me stop blabbing.
Break that shit down for the people, Lynne.
I'm outta here!

Interesting, not one of these made my list. Hehe. Okay, maybe one. I'm not done yet.
